When, in 1991, I got into MS program at MIT Sloan School of Management, I did not know that my experience would be so transformational. It was transformational in two specific ways. I did not know that learning in classrooms could be so relevant to real world happenings. I also did not know that the students learn so much more when they take responsibility for learning upon themselves as opposed to depending on the school and the teachers to spoon-feed them. Ace Institute of Management was launched in 1999 with a vision to provide opportunities and environment of such transformational experiences to more and more students in Nepal.

It has been heartening to see students in our undergraduate as well as graduate programs undergoing transformation during and after the programs. Some students share and express their transformational experiences. But many more carry away their experiences with them quietly.

Ace wants to provide a student-centered learning environment because the teacher-centered learning constrains the students within a certain boundary. The student-centered learning, though more demanding on teachers and students both, broadens the scope and widens the horizon of learning. Slowly but progressively the idea and its impact are sinking in among our students and teachers.

Ace believes in imparting education that has strong relevance to real life. Unfortunately, many components of our education still reward only the book learning. It is difficult to engage students in practical works when immediate rewards are not aligned to such activities. Nevertheless, programs at Ace do not glamorize grades. Rather, they emphasize on conceptual understanding and application of those understandings to real life situations.

As always, we will continually strive to provide an environment where our students and teachers make learning meaningful to personal growth and relevant to real world happenings.

I also take this opportunity to express my gratitude to our students, alumnae, teachers, and staff for their respective contributions in Ace's wonderful journey. And to all the new students, thank you for your trust in Ace, welcome to Ace, and wish you all a very enjoyable and rewarding learning experience.
